Course
The Wisconsin Triterium course
The Triterium is the second race of the Wisconsin Triathlon Series, based at Fireman's Park (600 Bruce Street) in Verona just southwest of Madison, with a 7:00 a.m. start. The sprint is a quarter-mile swim, 11-mile bike and 5K run, and the Olympic a 1.5K swim, 25-mile bike and 10K run.

The race uses a multi-loop format, so you pass the crowd several times and spectators see plenty of action. The bike heads into the rolling farm country around Verona, and the route map swings between about 890 and 1,100 feet of elevation, so expect real climbs and fast descents rather than a flat ride. Verona has a long triathlon history, and the sprint has three hours and the Olympic five hours to finish.

- Race-day conditions
- Late June around Madison usually means around 60 °F at the start and highs near 80 °F, often humid, with thunderstorms possible. Wetsuits are mandatory below 58 °F, legal up to 78 °F and allowed without awards from 78.1 to 83.9 °F, so a wetsuit swim is the likely call. Drink early on the bike, because the run comes as the morning warms up.
What to train for
The bike is where this race is won, so get used to rolling terrain: ride 4 to 6 x 2 minutes uphill at threshold, staying seated and smooth, and practice descending with confidence.
Ride your long sessions on hilly routes and pace each loop evenly instead of attacking the first climb.
Add weekly bricks into 15 to 20 minutes at race pace, and swim open water with a wetsuit a few times in May and June so the swim start feels routine.

Taper
Tapering for the Wisconsin Triterium
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on June 26, 2027, your taper starts around June 17, 2027.
