Athlete Space wrote this page, and Athlete Space is our app. We list it first because we built it for exactly this question, and we say plainly where another tool is the better pick. Every fact about another tool comes from that tool's own pages, linked under it.
What a triathlon app has to get right
Balance first: hard bike days and hard run days must not stack, swim technique needs regular time in the water, and bricks belong in the build. Then life: when a swim slot disappears or a long ride gets rained out, the week has to rebalance, not just drop a session.
Free triathlon training apps
Athlete Space is free for every distance from sprint to full. Garmin Triathlon Coach is free on compatible watches for sprint, standard and half distance, MOTTIV has a free tier for one race at a time, and TrainingPeaks Basic is free as a log.
Common questions
What is the best free triathlon training app?
Athlete Space builds a full triathlon plan from sprint to full distance for free, balances all three sports around your week, adapts every night and lets you ask your coach about any session.
Is there an AI triathlon coach?

Is TrainerRoad good for triathlon?
Yes, especially for the bike. It costs $21.99 a month, and its help pages say planned swims and runs cannot be pushed to Garmin.
Can I train for an Ironman with an app?
