The bike rolls through the wooded Kettle Moraine, and the route map stays between about 850 and 950 feet of elevation, so expect steady rollers rather than long climbs. The runs stay on quiet park roads, and the sprint 5K is flat. The sprint has three hours and the Olympic five, and the race raises funds for a good cause, which gives the day a warm, supportive feel.

- Race-day conditions
- Late July in southeastern Wisconsin usually brings about 60–65 °F at the start and highs in the low 80s °F, often humid, and the shade of the forest helps early on. Wetsuits are mandatory below 58 °F, legal up to 78 °F and allowed without awards from 78.1 to 83.9 °F, and midsummer lake water often sits near that 78 °F line. Plan your drinking for a warm run.
What to train for
The rolling Kettle Moraine roads reward riders who hold steady power over each rise: ride 3 x 15 minutes at Olympic effort on rolling terrain, shifting early so your cadence stays smooth.
Since warm July water can make the swim non-wetsuit, do most of your open-water practice without one and work on a strong, relaxed 1500 m.
Add weekly bricks into 20 to 30 minutes at 10K pace on flat roads, and practice running your goal pace in midmorning heat.

The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on July 25, 2027, your taper starts around July 16, 2027.
