Course
The Walsh Lake Triathlon course
The race is based at Lake Park on Walsh Lake, in the Walsh neighborhood on Fort Worth's far west side, with youth waves at 7:00 a.m., the sprint at 7:25 and the super sprint (Playtri's My First Super Sprint) at 7:55. Swimmers seed themselves in corrals by predicted swim time for the 500-meter (sprint) or 200-meter (super sprint) swim in the man-made lake.

The 6-mile bike loop runs through Walsh's neighborhood streets and along a stretch beside Interstate 30; the sprint rides it twice and the super sprint once. The run heads east from Lake Park on neighborhood paths past a smaller pond, with a U-turn at the pond for the 2-mile super sprint run and another farther out for the 5K. Cutoffs are 25 minutes for the swim, 90 minutes for the bike and 60 minutes for the run.

- Race-day conditions
- The organizers say Walsh Lake is typically 70–78 °F, which usually falls within the USA Triathlon wetsuit-legal range (78 °F and below); the official reading is taken an hour before the start, and between 78.1 and 84 °F a wetsuit makes you ineligible for awards. Mid-September mornings near Fort Worth usually start around 70–75 °F and climb toward the 90s °F by afternoon, often humid, so expect a warm run.
What to train for
The swim is in open water, not a pool, so practice in a lake before race day: sight every 6 to 8 strokes and start from a seeded group.
The bike is a short loop with turns and an exposed stretch along the interstate, so ride 3 to 5 x 5 minutes at hard effort and practice cornering.
Add weekly bricks of 30 to 40 minutes on the bike straight into a 15 to 20 minute run, some in the morning heat. Super sprint first-timers can build to riding 6 miles and then running 2 miles back to back a few times before race day.
