Course
The Triathlon de Santos course
Now in its 35th edition, the race is based on Avenida Vicente de Carvalho at Praia do Boqueirão. The 1.5 km swim is a sea swim off Boqueirão beach, in two laps around the buoys.
Read the full course notes
The 40 km bike leaves the seafront and heads inland on the Via Anchieta towards Cubatão, an out-and-back done twice on the flat lowland stretch of the highway, so it is a fast course where steady power pays. The 10 km run follows the seafront avenues and the long beachfront gardens, heading east towards Ponta da Praia and west towards Gonzaga before finishing back at Boqueirão. Drafting is not allowed on the bike, with a 15 m gap required between riders.

- Race-day conditions
- Early March in Santos is usually hot and humid, around 22–28 °C with humidity above 80% and a real chance of a tropical shower. The sea is warm at this time of year, and the rules allow wetsuits for all amateur categories in the Olympic distance whatever the water temperature (professionals only at 21 °C or below). The run is exposed to the sun along the beach, so pace it with the heat in mind and drink at every aid station.
What to train for
A flat, non-drafting 40 km on the Via Anchieta is a time trial: build sustained efforts on the bike such as 3 × 12 minutes or 2 × 20 minutes at race power, and practise holding an aero position for the full distance.
Swim in open water as often as you can, including practice getting through surf at the beach start and sighting on buoys over swell.
Run bricks of 15 to 30 minutes straight off the bike in hot conditions, and rehearse a hydration plan for heat and humidity on the run.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Triathlon de Santos
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on March 7, 2027, your taper starts around February 26, 2027.
