Course
The Triathlon Caiobá course
One of Brazil's longest-running triathlons (the 2026 race was the 37th edition) is held at Caiobá beach in Matinhos on the Paraná coast. The swim starts from the sand of Praia Mansa de Caiobá, a sheltered bay, with the Olympic field swimming two laps for 1,500 m and the Short covering 750 m, always outside the buoys.

The bike stays on the flat coastal plain on Rua Assis Chateaubriand, Rodovia Máximo Jamur, Avenida José Artur Vanluti and the PR-508 Alexandra–Matinhos road, two laps for the Olympic 40 km and a 20 km version for the Short. The run follows the seafront Avenida Atlântica out to the Sesc Caiobá hotel and back (two laps for the Olympic 10 km), finishing at Praça Dante Luiz Júnior. Drafting rules apply, with a blue card and a one-minute penalty, and amateur Olympic athletes have 3 hours to finish.

- Race-day conditions
- Sea temperatures off Matinhos are usually 25–28 °C in March, above the 24 °C limit, so expect a non-wetsuit swim for amateurs (wetsuits are optional only from 16.1 to 23.9 °C). The air is typically hot and humid, with lows around 21 °C, highs near 29 °C and humidity above 80%, plus the chance of tropical showers. Train without a wetsuit and plan your hydration for heat.
What to train for
Get comfortable swimming in the sea without a wetsuit: practise beach starts, sighting on buoys and swimming through small waves.
The flat bike rewards a steady aero position, so ride 2 x 20 minutes at Olympic-distance effort holding your tuck, and learn to keep legal gaps in group rides because drafting is penalised.
Brick runs in the heat matter most: 45–60 minutes on the bike followed by 20–30 minutes at race pace, drinking as you go. The two-lap seafront run is flat but exposed to the sun, so practise cooling with water and holding your pace on the second lap.

Taper
Tapering for the Triathlon Caiobá
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
