    Florianópolis 70.3 distances

    • 70.3 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, 21.1 km run

    Course

    The Florianópolis 70.3 course

The swim is one 1.9 km lap off Praia dos Ingleses in the north of the island, an open-sea swim that can bring current and some swell. The 90 km bike is a single lap that climbs a short hill leaving Ingleses, then runs mostly flat on the smooth SC-403 and SC-401 highways toward the city, with a few gentle overpasses and lanes on Av.

Beira-Mar Norte reserved for athletes. The 21.1 km run is three flat laps along the beachfront. Fast, scenic and well supported, it is a popular first 70.3 and a strong personal-best course.

    Race-day conditions
IRONMAN lists an average water temperature of 22 °C (20 °C in 2025), so expect a wetsuit-legal swim under the 24.5 °C rule. October air is mild, usually about 16–19 °C at the start and 23–25 °C by the run, and wind off the sea is common. Sea conditions occasionally force changes (the 2024 swim was cancelled for safety), so prepare to race well whatever format the day brings.

    What to train for

A single-lap, mostly flat bike rewards steady aero riding: build to 2 x 40 minutes at 70.3 power in the aero position on flat roads.

Practise ocean swimming with waves, beach starts and sighting, since Ingleses can bring swell and current.

Brick runs of 30–45 minutes at goal pace off the bike prepare you for the flat three-lap run, where even pacing beats a fast first lap.

    Taper

    Tapering for the Florianópolis 70.3

Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
