Course
The Regensburg Marathon course
Start and finish are at the Infineon car park next to the Westbad on Messerschmittstrasse, with the marathon, three-quarter marathon and half marathon all starting together at 8:30. Everyone runs the half marathon loop first; the three-quarter marathon then adds one Old Town loop of quarter-marathon length and the marathon adds two.

The organizers describe the course as flat and fast, and most of it runs through Regensburg's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2006. The quarter marathon starts at 11:30, and all distances close at 14:00.

- Flat
- Distances
- Half marathon, Marathon, 32K
- Weather on race day
- Around 9 May, Regensburg typically sees lows near 7 °C and highs near 18 °C, comfortable conditions for an 8:30 start. The chance of a wet day is about 30%, so a light rain layer or cap is worth packing. Temperatures climb through the late morning, so marathoners should drink early at the aid stations while it is still cool.
What to train for
A flat, fast loop course rewards even pacing, so build tempo runs and long runs at steady effort on level ground.
Because marathoners pass the finish area and head back out for two more Old Town loops, practice the mental side: long runs split into blocks, with the last block run at goal pace.
Old Town streets bring corners and changes of surface, so include some runs with turns and short accelerations to stay smooth. The 2027 race is the 35th edition, so enjoy being part of it and save your push for the final loop.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Regensburg Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on May 9, 2027, your taper starts around April 21, 2027.
