Course
The Frankfurt Marathon course
The start is on the Friedrich-Ebert-Anlage by the Messe at 10:00, and the race heads into the city centre past the Alte Oper before crossing the Main on the Alte Brücke into Sachsenhausen. From there one big loop runs west through Niederrad and Schwanheim to the turn in Höchst, then back through Nied, Griesheim and the Gallus along the Mainzer Landstraße.

The official FAQ puts the lowest point at 89.4 m and the highest at 117.2 m, only 27.8 m apart over the whole distance, on wide asphalt roads. The finish is the signature: you run into the Festhalle and cross the line on a red carpet about 60 m inside the hall.

- About 17,000 runners in 2025, a record for the race
- Weather on race day
- Late October in Frankfurt usually brings 7–15 °C, with a cool start at 10:00 and a fair chance of grey skies or drizzle. That is close to ideal for even pacing, so plan a throwaway layer for the start and normal fluid needs rather than heat tactics.
What to train for
With under 30 m of elevation change, this course rewards rhythm, so most of your key sessions should be at or around goal marathon pace on flat roads.
Build long runs to 32–35 km with the final 10–15 km at goal pace to rehearse the long return leg from Höchst along the Mainzer Landstraße.
Practise fuelling every 30–40 minutes on those runs, and include a few 15–20 km steady runs at goal pace to lock in the effort. The 6-hour net limit (about 8:30 per km) gives first-timers plenty of room.

Taper
Tapering for the Frankfurt Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
