Course
The Mojo Triathlon course
Mojo Triathlon is a club-run race in VOA Park, a 435-acre park in West Chester just off I-75, held every year since its start in 2013 and 2014 except 2020. The swim is in the calm water of the VOA lake, entered from the dock near the park gazebo: 750 m for the Sprint and 1,500 m for the Olympic.

The bike loop has some rolling hills with car traffic kept to a minimum, ridden once by the Sprint for 20 km (about 12.4 miles) and twice by the Olympic for 40 km (about 24.8 miles). The run stays inside the park on a 3.1-mile loop, two laps for the Olympic's 6.2 miles, with one aid station on the outer back section, and transition sits in the upper north parking lot.

- Race-day conditions
- In late August the Cincinnati area averages highs near 84 °F and lows near 65 °F, with muggy air about half the time and roughly a 30% chance of a wet day. The organizers note that the VOA lake has historically been between 73 and 80 °F, so check the official temperature and wetsuit call in race week. With only one aid station on the run loop, carry fluids on the bike and drink early to stay ahead of the heat.
What to train for
Rolling hills reward a smooth, even effort, so practise riding small rises at a steady pace and use repeats like 4 x 5 minutes at Olympic effort on rolling terrain.
Olympic athletes ride and run two laps, which makes it easy to pace the first lap a touch easier and finish strong on the second.
Add a weekly brick of 45 to 60 minutes on the bike straight into 15 to 20 minutes of running, and get a few open-water swims in before race day. Para athletes are warmly welcomed, with para divisions and in-water starts that a 2024 committee helped shape.

Taper
Tapering for the Mojo Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week.
