Course
The American Triple-T course
The American Triple-T is a three-day stage race at Pleasant Hill Lake Park near Perrysville, in the Appalachian foothills of the Mohican Valley, run by HFP Racing alongside the single-race Pleasant Valley Triathlon. In the 2026 format, Friday evening opened with a super sprint (250 yd swim, 3 mile bike, 1 mile run through the campground), Saturday held morning and afternoon Olympic or sprint races, and Sunday closed with a half iron (1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run) or a shorter Olympic.

Swims start from the sandy beach with a time trial start every 3 to 5 seconds, and wetsuits are allowed. The organizers describe the course as hilly: the Sunday half iron bike has more than 2,700 ft of climbing and the Saturday Olympic bike close to 1,900 ft, on roads that stay open to traffic. Saturday runs use a gently rolling paved park path and Sunday runs use the park roads.

- Race-day conditions
- Late May near Mansfield averages a high of 72 °F and a low of 50 °F, and the organizers expect race-day air temperatures of 65 to 72 °F. Mornings by the lake can be cool, so bring a warm layer for setup and the Sunday dawn start. Rain falls on about 14 days in May, around 4.1 inches in total, so practice riding descents on wet roads and pack spare dry kit for a three-day weekend. The water usually sits between 64 and 69 °F, and the swims are expected to be wetsuit legal.
What to train for
Climbing defines this weekend, so make hill repeats on the bike a weekly staple and fit the climbing gears the organizers recommend.
If you race the full Triple-T, practice back-to-back days: a short hard brick on Friday evening, two efforts on Saturday and a long ride and run on Sunday, so your legs learn to recover between stages.
Rehearse fueling and quick recovery meals between the Saturday morning and afternoon races. Get some open-water swims in a wetsuit, since the lake averages 64 to 69 °F. For the Pleasant Valley single races, a classic sprint, Olympic or half iron plan with extra hill work fits perfectly.

Taper
Tapering for the American Triple-T
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is hilly, so keep one short hill session in the first taper week to keep the climbs familiar.
