Course
The Mexico City Half Marathon course
The 2026 edition started at the Hemiciclo a Juárez beside the Alameda Central and finished, as usual, at the Ángel de la Independencia. Runners pass the Monumento a la Revolución, then follow Paseo de la Reforma past the Diana Cazadora, the Museo Nacional de Antropología and the Auditorio Nacional toward the Lomas and Chapultepec.

New for 2026 was a loop through the Third Section of the Bosque de Chapultepec on Avenida de los Compositores, Avenida Toluca and Calzada Chivatito: a wooded stretch with climbs and curves that was the hardest part of the day. The route then returns along Reforma to the Ángel, all at about 2,240 m above sea level, with a 3-hour time limit.

- Weather on race day
- July is rainy season in Mexico City: race mornings usually start around 12–15 °C with high humidity, and showers are common. The altitude makes you breathe harder and lose fluid faster than the temperature suggests, so drink early and start slower than your sea-level pace.
What to train for
Altitude costs most sea-level runners several seconds per kilometre, so set your goal by effort and heart rate rather than an old pace.
Prepare for the Chapultepec section with 6–8 x 2 minutes uphill at 10K effort, plus long runs on rolling terrain that finish with 5 km on the flat at half-marathon effort.
If you can, arrive several days early; otherwise run the first 10 km conservatively and save your push for the return along Reforma.

Taper
Tapering for the Mexico City Half Marathon
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week.
