On the latest published map, the first 10 km head northwest past the River Plate stadium and Ciudad Universitaria toward Av. General Paz before returning past the start, then the course runs along Av. del Libertador past the Cementerio de la Recoleta to the Obelisco around km 19 and the Casa Rosada at km 20. The middle section loops through the centre on Av. de Mayo and Av. Belgrano, then follows Paseo Colón south to La Boca near the Boca Juniors stadium around km 27 and 28. From there runners turn north through Puerto Madero past the Reserva Ecológica and the Fuente de las Nereidas, pass the Museo de los Inmigrantes near km 35, and run a stretch under the motorway on Av. Antártida Argentina before heading back past the Aeroparque to the finish. The asphalt course is certified by World Athletics, carries a World Athletics Label, and the organisers call it the fastest race in Latin America; the time limit is 6 hours.

- Weather on race day
- Late September in Buenos Aires is early spring: the 7:00 a.m. start is usually cool, around 10–13 °C, with afternoon highs near 20 °C and humidity around 70%. Rain falls on about one day in four, and the riverside stretches through Puerto Madero and past the Aeroparque can feel breezy, so start in a throwaway layer and plan to drink steadily as the morning warms.
What to train for
On a flat, fast course the marathon is won by pacing discipline, so build long runs to 30–32 km with the final 10–12 km at goal pace to rehearse the late stretch along the river.
Add a weekly marathon-pace run of 12–16 km and a threshold session such as 3 × 15 minutes.
The course has many 90 degree corners and U-turns through the centre and La Boca, so practise holding rhythm through turns and use the long straight avenues to settle. Rehearse your fuelling every 30 to 40 minutes on long runs, and check the official map before race day because the route can change between editions.

Taper
Tapering for the Maratón de Buenos Aires
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
