The Rock 'n' Roll Nashville course
The former Country Music Marathon, and still the biggest race weekend in Nashville. The course runs down Broadway, past Music Row, and through the neighborhoods east and south of downtown. Runners consistently describe it as far hillier than they expected: the climbs are short but they never stop, and the half and the full share the hardest stretch in the middle miles.
Weather on race day
Late April in Nashville can be anything from 45 degrees and raining to 70 and humid at the start. Humidity is the variable that decides most people's day, and it is usually high.
What to train for
Rolling hill repeats, not long steady climbs. The specific skill this course asks for is recovering quickly on short descents so you arrive at the next rise with something left. Practice goal pace on undulating terrain rather than on a flat greenway.
