Bike and run are laps, and the regulation makes counting your own laps your job, since officials will not tell you. Drafting is illegal in the Standard and long formats (12 m gap), but allowed with restrictions in the Sprint and Super Sprint. The organiser has not published detailed bike and run maps, so check the athlete guide before race week.

- Race-day conditions
- The sea off Salvador is usually around 28–29 °C in March, and wetsuits are only allowed below 24 °C, so plan on a non-wetsuit swim. Air temperatures usually run from about 24 °C at the start to over 30 °C by late morning, with around 80% humidity and the chance of showers as the rainy season begins. Drink early on the bike, because the run comes in the hottest part of the day.
What to train for
With no wetsuit, swim fitness is exposed, so build steady 1,500 to 1,800 m sets in the pool and practise open-water sighting in the sea.
Ride long sessions at a steady, aero-friendly effort on flat roads, since the long formats are non-drafting, and add weekly bricks with 20 to 40 minutes of running straight off the bike in the heat.
Respect the cut-offs (Start Long: 1 h swim, 3 h 30 min bike, 2 h run) by rehearsing your fuelling and lap counting in training.
