Paseo Ixtapa in front of the Hotel Fontán, with the swim in the Pacific off the Ixtapa hotel zone. The Olympic is 1,500 m, 40 km and 10 km, the Sprint 750 m, 20 km and 5 km, and the Super Sprint (men), WomanUp (women) and Junior 14-15 races are 400 m, 10 km and 2.5 km. There is also a Sprint Duathlon (5 km run, 20 km bike, 2.5 km run), relays for the Sprint and Olympic, and a 3kids race on Sunday. The 2026 edition, the 40th anniversary, sold out.

    Race-day conditions
Ten years of mid-May weather data for Ixtapa show average highs near 31 °C and lows near 24 °C, with about 27 °C already at 8 am. Rain is rare in this window (about one day in 25), so expect sun, warm sea water and humid air. Start well hydrated, drink on every bike lap and use every aid station on the run.

    What to train for

This is a hot, humid coastal race, so the key is heat-ready fitness rather than hills.

Practise open-water swims in the sea if you can, including sighting and starts through small surf.

Do weekly bricks (bike straight into a 15 to 30 minute run) and some of them in the warmest part of the day to learn your fluid and salt needs. Because the race sells out, register early and build around a fixed date: 12 weeks is enough for a Sprint, 16 for a first Olympic.
