    Campeche 70.3 distances

    • 70.3 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike, 21.1 km run

    Course

    The Campeche 70.3 course

The 1.9 km swim starts from Playa Bonita on the Gulf of Mexico with a rolling, self-seeded start, and T1 sits on the beach. The 90 km bike heads out on the Mérida highway, crosses a bridge onto the Malecón and then rides two out-and-back laps between the seafront avenue and the highway: flat, fast and exposed to whatever breeze comes off the Gulf.

T2 is in Parque Moch Couoh downtown, and the 21.1 km run is three flat laps past the Malecón's marine fountains and through the historic centre. You finish at the Puerta de Mar, the sea gate of the walled colonial city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Race-day conditions
IRONMAN lists an average water temperature of 27 °C, above the 24.5 °C wetsuit cut-off, so plan on a non-wetsuit swim in a swimskin or tri suit. Race-day air usually runs from about 21–22 °C at dawn to 30–32 °C by the run, with humidity around 75–80 %. Start drinking early on the bike and use every aid station on the run for water and cooling.

    What to train for

Flat roads and coastal breeze reward an aerodynamic, steady ride: practise long intervals in the aero position at 70.3 power, ideally on windy days.

Swim without a wetsuit in training so race pace in the warm Gulf feels familiar, and add open-water sessions with some chop.

The run decides the day in this heat: once a week train in the warmest part of the day, rehearse your fueling and sodium plan in bricks, and practise three-lap pacing so you hold back on the first lap.

    Taper

    Tapering for the Campeche 70.3

Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.

    Campeche 70.3 training questions

How long should I train for the Campeche 70.3?

Most athletes give a 70.3 triathlon sixteen to twenty weeks of focused training on top of an existing base. The coach counts back from your actual race date, so if you have less time than that it builds the best plan the remaining weeks allow rather than pretending you have longer.

What is the Campeche 70.3 course like?

Flat. The 1.9 km swim starts from Playa Bonita on the Gulf of Mexico with a rolling, self-seeded start, and T1 sits on the beach.

How cold is the water at the Campeche 70.3?

IRONMAN lists an average water temperature of 27 °C, above the 24.5 °C wetsuit cut-off, so plan on a non-wetsuit swim in a swimskin or tri suit. Race-day air usually runs from about 21–22 °C at dawn to 30–32 °C by the run, with humidity around 75–80 %. Start drinking early on the bike and use every aid station on the run for water and cooling.

When should I start tapering for the Campeche 70.3?

Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
