    Course

    The Tallahassee Marathon course

Both races start on Monroe Street just north of the Florida Capitol, outside the Leon County Courthouse, and finish in the College Town district near Madison Street by Florida State. The first half is the rolling part, including a climb on Lafayette Street, followed by a long downhill across the Capital Cascades Crossing into Cascades Park and along FAMU Way.

The marathon leaves the half course twice, on Lafayette Street and on FAMU Way, and recent editions have used the flat, paved St. Marks Trail for part of the extra distance. The closing miles pass the FAMU and FSU campuses under oak canopy and Spanish moss, on a USATF-certified road course with aid every 2 to 2.2 miles.

    Weather on race day
Early February in Tallahassee usually means start temperatures in the 40s to low 50s °F and highs in the mid 60s, though a warm, humid morning or a cold front in the 30s are both possible. Dress in layers you can shed, and plan fluids for humidity even when it starts cool.

    What to train for

The hills come early, so practice running the first 10 miles at steady effort on rolling routes instead of banking time.

Include 60 to 90 second hill repeats once a week and long runs with climbs in their first half, then finish those runs at goal pace on flatter ground to mirror the course.

Rehearse fueling every 2 miles to match the aid spacing. The marathon requires roughly 13:44 per mile or faster, so newer runners should practice that pace on long runs.
