The Miami Marathon course
Starts downtown before dawn, crosses the MacArthur Causeway to South Beach, runs Ocean Drive, and returns over the Venetian Causeway. Flat apart from the causeway bridges, which are the only climbs on the course and arrive early. The marathon's second half heads through Coconut Grove and is quieter than the first.
Weather on race day
Late January in Miami still means humidity. A start in the 60s that climbs into the high 70s with the sun up is common, and for marathoners the last hour is often the hottest part of the day.
What to train for
Heat and humidity above everything else, especially for anyone training through a northern winter. Adjust the goal for the conditions, drink at every station from the start, and get some overdressed runs in during the build so race morning is not the first warm run of your season.
