    Course

    The Naples Half Marathon course

The course stays in the heart of Naples: out along 5th Avenue South, down Gordon Drive and through the Port Royal neighborhood, then back to finish in Cambier Park, where the post-race party waits. The organizers call it fast, flat and shaded, and it is USATF certified.

Naples sits barely above sea level, so there are no climbs to plan around. Nearly $20,000 in prize money draws a quick front of the field, while free pace groups cover finishing times from 1:35 to 3:00. Road closures set a firm three-hour time limit.

The race lists an average race-morning temperature of 56 °F for the 7:00 a.m. start, and January is the dry season in southwest Florida. Some years run cooler or more humid than average, so check the forecast and drink to thirst at the aid stations if the sun comes out early.

    What to train for

A flat, shaded course is built for a personal best, so the key workouts are goal-pace miles: progress from 3 x 2 miles at half marathon pace to a 10 mile run with the middle 6 at goal pace.

Even pacing matters more than anything else here, so practice settling onto your pace from the first mile instead of chasing the fast start.

If you train through a northern winter, add a few runs in a warm room or layered up to prepare for Florida air.

    Taper

Tapering for the Naples Half Marathon

Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on January 17, 2027, your taper starts around January 5, 2027.
