The Myrtle Beach Marathon course
Both races start on Robert Grissom Parkway near 21st Avenue North, beside the Pelicans ballpark, and finish at Pelicans Stadium. On the 2026 course both head south on Kings Highway through The Market Common, then turn north up Ocean Boulevard for a long run along the oceanfront before the half turns inland to the finish.

The marathon carries on north up Ocean Boulevard into the Dunes section past 67th Avenue North, then comes back via Grand Dunes Boulevard and Kings Highway, with the last aid station near Topgolf at mile 24.5. The course is pancake flat, USATF certified and a Boston qualifier, with aid roughly every 2 miles and marathon pacers from 3:00 to 5:30. The 2027 map has not been posted yet, so small changes are possible.

- Flat
- Distances
- Marathon, Half marathon
- Weather on race day
- Early March in Myrtle Beach usually brings start temperatures in the 40s to low 50s °F, rising into the low to mid 60s °F by late morning, often with a breeze off the ocean along Ocean Boulevard. Warm, humid mornings and chilly fronts both happen, so bring a throwaway layer and be ready to adjust pace if the wind is in your face on the beachfront miles.
What to train for
A flat, fast course rewards even pacing, so make goal-pace work the core: long runs with the last 8 to 10 miles at marathon pace, plus weekly tempo runs of 4 to 7 miles on flat roads.
With no hills to break the rhythm, practice staying relaxed at a steady cadence for long stretches, and add strides to keep your legs sharp.
Rehearse taking gels around miles 8.5, 14.5 and 20.5, where Gu is handed out. The marathon allows 6:30 (about 15:00 per mile), so newer runners should practice that pace on long runs.

Taper
Tapering for the Myrtle Beach Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on March 6, 2027, your taper starts around February 16, 2027.
