    The race starts in La Villa and finishes in Corvara in Alta Badia. The 138 km Maratona course climbs Passo Campolongo, Pordoi, Sella, Gardena, Giau and Valparola plus the steep Mür dl Giat. The 55 km Sellaronda loop covers the first four passes.

    What to train for

    Build the ability to climb for long stretches at high altitude, with 20 to 45 minute climbing intervals and long hilly rides. Pace the early passes conservatively and practice descending on switchbacks.

    How long should I train for the Maratona?

    Most athletes give a cycling twelve to sixteen weeks of focused training on top of an existing base. The coach counts back from your actual race date, so if you have less time than that it builds the best plan the remaining weeks allow rather than pretending you have longer.
