Course
The Great Clermont Triathlon course
Everything happens at Clermont Waterfront Park on Lake Minneola, and the 44th edition keeps its place as Florida's traditional season opener. The Olympic swim is one counterclockwise lap of a 1,500 m triangle in the lake, starting from the beach in front of the playground, while the sprint swims about a quarter mile.

The 40K (24.9-mile) bike first circles Lake Minneola counterclockwise, then heads out and back toward Cherry Lake on Jalarmy Road, Cherry Lake Road and Wilson Lake Parkway before returning along the lake to the park; the official map keeps it between about 90 and 185 feet, so expect rollers rather than real hills. The 10K run is an out and back on the paved South Lake Trail, mostly along the shoreline, and the sprint covers an 8.2-mile bike and a 3.1-mile run on the same roads and trail.

- Race-day conditions
- The organizers project a water temperature of 68–78 °F, and wetsuits follow USA Triathlon rules (fully legal for age groupers at 78 °F and below), so in most years you can swim in one. Early March in central Florida is usually pleasant, with mornings in the mid 50s to low 60s °F warming toward the upper 70s by afternoon, which makes the run the warmest part of the day. Wear sunscreen and drink steadily on the bike.
What to train for
Clermont's rollers reward steady power: ride 2 x 20 minutes at Olympic-distance effort over rolling terrain, holding the same effort up each rise instead of surging.
Because this is an early-season race, get a few open-water sessions in your wetsuit to practice sighting and turning around buoys on a triangle course.
Add a weekly brick of 45–60 minutes on the bike straight into 15–20 minutes at 10K race pace so the flat trail run feels familiar off the bike. Build your bike base through January and February rather than arriving on winter fitness alone.

Taper
Tapering for the Great Clermont Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on March 7, 2027, your taper starts around February 26, 2027.
