The swim is in the Florida Pool: 350 m (seven lengths) for the Sprint and 250 m (five lengths) for the Super Sprint, so there is no open water and no wetsuit decision. The Sprint bike is 9.3 miles on campus roads and the run a 5K through the heart of campus; the Super Sprint rides 3.1 miles and runs 1 mile. Campus roads are mostly flat with a few short rises and plenty of turns, and the event runs between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. It is a friendly, student-run race and a popular first triathlon.

- Race-day conditions
- The swim is in a pool, so there is no wetsuit to think about. Mid-March in Gainesville usually brings mornings around 50–60 °F and afternoons in the mid 70s °F, in one of the driest, least humid stretches of the year. Bring a jacket for transition if it starts cool, and drink well because it warms up quickly by the run.
What to train for
In a short race the transitions are a big share of your time, so rehearse them: set up a mini transition at home and practice pool to bike and bike to run until they are automatic.
In the pool, do sets like 6 x 50 m fast with 20 seconds rest to match a hard 350 m effort, and practice climbing out and jogging to your bike.
On the bike, ride 20 to 30 minute efforts at sprint race intensity with short rises, then run 10 to 15 minutes straight off the bike at 5K effort. Campus corners reward bike handling, so practice braking and cornering smoothly on a quiet loop.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Escape the Swamp Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on March 14, 2027, your taper starts around March 5, 2027.
