The marathon starts at 8:30 from Plaza del Pilar, beside the City Hall, and finishes back on the same square. The route takes in the Expo area, the Roman walls, the Mercado Central, Plaza de España, Paseo de Independencia, Plaza de Aragón, Calle Don Jaime and the Coso.

New for this edition are the Puente del Tercer Milenio, the Puente de Piedra, the bullring and Paseo de la Constitución. The one demanding climb, from Tenor Fleta up to the Canal Imperial, now comes early at around km 17 instead of km 32. The 10K starts at 9:05 from Paseo Echegaray y Caballero by the Basilica del Pilar on a flat, very fast route.

    Distances
    10K, Marathon
    Weather on race day
In April Zaragoza averages a high of about 19 °C and a low of about 9 °C, which suits a fast marathon. Expect around 5.5 rainy days in the month, so a shower is possible but most mornings are dry. The wind blows mostly from the west in spring at an average of about 16 km/h, and it can feel strong in open stretches by the Ebro. A light layer for the start that you can drop is a good idea.

    What to train for

With the climb moved to around km 17, you can run it on fresh legs, so practise holding effort rather than pace on a 1 to 2 km hill in your long runs.

The rest of the course is urban and runs well at an even pace, so rehearse marathon pace in blocks of 8 to 12 km.

There are eight aid stations, roughly every 5 km, with fruit and nuts from km 20, and gels are handed out at the expo for you to carry. Choose your target time when you register so the organisers place you with the right pacer.
