The Valencia Marathon course

The fastest marathon in the world that is not a Major, and by some measures faster than several that are. Flat, wide, and looping through Valencia to a finish on a floating bridge over the water at the City of Arts and Sciences. Its reputation for producing personal bests is well earned and is the reason the field is now overwhelmingly international.

Weather on race day

Early December on the Spanish Mediterranean coast is close to perfect for racing: starts in the 40s or 50s, highs in the 60s, usually dry and still. The weather is a large part of the course's reputation.

What to train for

Pure marathon-pace fitness, and a build that runs through the northern autumn. A December date means your peak weeks fall in October and November, so plan for shorter daylight and colder long runs than the race itself will deliver.
