Course
The Valencia Half Marathon course
Start and finish are on the Avinguda dels Tarongers in the university district, and the route is built for speed: few turns, wide roads and almost no climbing. Early on it heads out past the tiger-nut fields of L'Horta Nord, then skirts the old Turia riverbed gardens before running through the historic centre.

The closing kilometres pass through the streets of El Cabanyal by the sea, and you finish on a striking blue raised walkway. This is one of the fastest half marathons in the world: the organisers note that Letesenbet Gidey set a women's world record of 1:02:52 here in 2021 and Yomif Kejelcha ran a then world record of 57:30 in 2024, and seven of the ten fastest men's times ever were run on this course.

- Weather on race day
- Late October in Valencia is usually 15–24 °C with humidity around 65–70%, so a morning start is mild but can feel warm by the final kilometres if the sun is out. Drink at the stations at km 5.4 and 10, take the gels on offer at km 15.2 if you need them, and adjust goal pace slightly on a warm, sticky day.
What to train for
A flat, fast course rewards race-specific speed, so the core of your plan should be half-marathon-pace work: 3 x 5 km at goal pace with short recoveries, or a 14–16 km continuous run at goal pace three weeks out.
Add a weekly session at 10K pace (for example 6 x 1 km) to make goal pace feel smooth.
Since late October can still be warm and humid, do a few key sessions in the heat of the day to prepare for a sticky race morning. Long runs of 18–22 km with the last 5 km at goal pace build the strength to hold form through El Cabanyal.

Taper
Tapering for the Valencia Half Marathon
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
