Course
The Wineglass Marathon course
A point-to-point course from Bath to Historic Market Street in Corning, following the river valley through Savona, Campbell (where the half starts, at the marathon's halfway point), Coopers Plains and Painted Post. Every runner rides a bus to the start, from either Bath or Corning.

The race calls the course fast and flat, with a gentle net downhill that stays inside Boston's limit; the half alone drops a net 40 feet. Small towns and quiet country roads in early fall color give way to crowds on Market Street at the finish. Every finisher receives a hand-crafted glass medal, fitting for the Crystal City.

- 5K, 5 miles, Half marathon, Marathon
- Weather on race day
- Early October in Corning usually means a chilly start in the upper 30s to 40s °F and highs in the upper 50s °F (October normals of about 36 °F and 58 °F). Fall color is usually turning along the valley. Dress warmly for the bus and the wait at the start, in layers you can drop once you warm up.
What to train for
A flat, gently downhill course is ideal for even pacing, but long gradual descents load the quads more than you expect.
Add a few miles of gradual downhill running to your weekly long run, and finish some long runs with 6 to 8 miles at goal pace on flat roads.
Hold back slightly through the first 10 miles: a patient first half sets up a strong run into Corning. It is a popular Boston qualifier, so a disciplined pacing plan pays off here.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Wineglass Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on October 3, 2027, your taper starts around September 15, 2027.
