Course
The Verona Marathon course
The 25th edition starts on Corso Porta Nuova, a few steps from Piazza Bra, and finishes in Piazza Bra beside the Roman Arena. The certified 42.195 km route is a tour of Verona's history: Piazza delle Erbe on the site of the Roman forum, San Fermo Maggiore, Castelvecchio, the Arco dei Gavi, the monumental city gates and several crossings of the Adige.

Only the marathon heads out along the river to the Chievo dam and Parona before returning to the centre, while the 21K (which starts an hour earlier, at 8:00) now passes through the Caserma Duca. The profile is essentially flat, so the only changes of rhythm come from bridge ramps, corners and stone-paved streets in the historic centre. The marathon starts at 9:00 with a 6-hour time limit.

- Weather on race day
- The organisers list an average race temperature of 9 °C, and mid-November mornings in Verona usually sit around 5–10 °C with high humidity and a real chance of fog or drizzle. Start in a layer you can throw away and drink to thirst rather than by the clock: cool, damp air is ideal for an even pace.
What to train for
A flat, cool course rewards a disciplined even pace, so build long runs to 32–35 km with the final 10–15 km at goal marathon pace.
Add a weekly session of 3 x 5 km at goal pace with short recoveries to make the rhythm automatic.
Practise holding pace through tight corners and over short bridge ramps without surging, and do a few runs on cold, damp mornings to rehearse your race kit and fuelling with cold hands.

Taper
Tapering for the Verona Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
