Course
The RomaOstia course
A point-to-point half marathon from the EUR district of Rome to the sea at Ostia, starting on Via Cristoforo Colombo in front of the PalaEUR. The first 4 km loop through EUR on wide, smooth roads, crossing the bridge over the EUR lake, before the race settles onto Via Cristoforo Colombo, the long, straight multilane boulevard to the coast, with a slight rise near the Via Pontina junction and under the Grande Raccordo Anulare.

The defining feature is the salita del Camping between about 10 and 14 km: roughly 1.5 km of steady climbing, never steeper than about 3 degrees, then a gentler 1.4 km to the Acilia junction. From there the course pays you back with a fast descent of about 2.5 km, the quickest part of the race, and a gently falling run to the finish on Piazzale Cristoforo Colombo, facing the Tyrrhenian Sea.

- About 13,500 entries in 2026
- Weather on race day
- Late February in Rome usually ranges from about 3 °C at dawn to 14 °C in the afternoon, so the 9:00 start is cool and often sunny. The run to the coast can bring a sea breeze, sometimes in your face on Via Cristoforo Colombo, so sit in a group and keep a light layer handy at the start.
What to train for
Train the middle of the race: the climb from about 10 to 14 km comes just as you settle into rhythm, so practise hill tempos of 3–4 km at half marathon effort on gentle gradients.
Then learn to run fast downhill with quick, light steps, because the descent after 14 km is the fastest part of the course and rewards anyone who stays relaxed.
Long runs of 16–20 km finishing at goal pace, plus a weekly threshold session, cover the rest.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the RomaOstia
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on February 28, 2027, your taper starts around February 16, 2027.
