The Toronto Waterfront Marathon course
Canada's flagship marathon and the country's most reliable fast course: flat, along the Lake Ontario waterfront and through downtown, and used as the national championship. It regularly produces Canadian records. The out-and-back sections along the lake are exposed but the profile itself never gets in the way.
Weather on race day
Mid-October in Toronto is cool and often ideal: starts in the 40s, highs in the 50s. Wind off Lake Ontario on the exposed waterfront stretches is the main variable.
What to train for
Goal-pace volume and wind discipline. On a flat, fast course the training is straightforward marathon-specific work, and the only in-race judgment call is refusing to fight a headwind on the lakefront. Hold effort, let pace drift, and take it back when you turn.
