Course
The Vancouver Half Marathon course
The half starts at 7:45 a.m. on NW Marine Drive at Agronomy Road on the UBC campus and finishes in Vanier Park in front of the Museum of Vancouver in Kitsilano. The first 9 km are an out-and-back on SW Marine Drive along the edge of Pacific Spirit Park: a long, gradual descent to the turnaround near 5 km and the same grade back up toward campus.

The course then rounds the tip of Point Grey on NW Marine Drive and drops to the ocean at Spanish Banks around 12–13 km, then follows the beaches past Jericho and Kitsilano to the finish. The official profile shows 142 m of climbing and 223 m of descent, with climbs and descents up to 2 km long and grades as steep as 8%, so the second half is fast. Ocean and mountain views from Spanish Banks onward are the reward for the early work.

- 5K, Half marathon
- Field
- Half marathon capped at 5,000 runners
- Weather on race day
- Late June in Vancouver usually means a cool, comfortable start around 13–18 °C, with average afternoon highs near 20 °C and a light sea breeze along the beaches. Showers are possible but rarely heavy at this time of year; on a sunny morning the exposed beach stretch warms quickly, so drink at the early stations.
What to train for
This course rewards patience on the climb back to UBC between about 5 and 9 km: run that section at effort, not pace, and let the long descent to Spanish Banks hand the time back.
Practise downhill running with steady 1–2 km descents at goal pace, which protects your quads for the flat final 8 km.
Hill repeats of 3–5 minutes on a steady grade, plus a weekly long run of 18–22 km, cover the specific demands.

Taper
Tapering for the Vancouver Half Marathon
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on June 27, 2027, your taper starts around June 15, 2027.
