Course
The Calgary Marathon course
Every distance finishes in ENMAX Park at Stampede Park. In 2026 the start moved for the first time in 13 years to 11 Ave SE beside the SAM Centre, and the 2027 start is still to be confirmed.

The marathon and half share the first 11 km, running clockwise through East Village, Bridgeland and Inglewood with an out-and-back near TELUS Spark. The marathon then heads west on Memorial Drive along the Bow River and carries on to an out-and-back in Bowness before returning to the finish. Laid out inside the river valley, it is a flat course with only about 115 m of total climbing, though at roughly 1,040 m Calgary asks a little more of runners who live near sea level.

- Weather on race day
- Late May in Calgary usually brings cool, dry mornings: the organisers give a race-day average low of about 7 °C and high of about 21 °C, so expect roughly 7–12 °C at the 6:45 a.m. start. The sun is strong at altitude and the air is dry, so drink a little more than feels necessary and wear sunscreen even if the start feels cold.
What to train for
Flat, fast and dry means pace discipline matters more than hill strength.
Build long runs to 32–35 km with blocks of 10–15 km at goal pace on flat pathways where you can hold it steady.
If you live near sea level, arrive a few days early if you can and start 5–10 seconds per km slower than your sea-level goal, picking it up after halfway if you feel good. Practise drinking on the move in your longest runs, because dry air hides how much you lose.

Taper
Tapering for the Calgary Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on May 30, 2027, your taper starts around May 12, 2027.
