Course
The Triatlón Piedra Roja course
Held since 2003, this is one of the classics of the Chilean calendar, raced around Laguna Piedra Roja in Chicureo, just north of Santiago. The swim is in the lagoon on an 800 m triangle, once for the 25.5 and twice (1,600 m) for the 51.0, with transition and the finish on the lakeside promenade.

The bike loop runs through Chicureo on Avenida Chicureo, Avenida del Valle (turning at the Jumbo end), Avenida José Rabat and Avenida Padre Correa, ridden once on the 25.5 and twice on the 51.0; drafting is not allowed at these distances. The run circles the lagoon with an out-and-back towards Los Collares, 3 laps for the 8 km and 6 laps for the 16 km. The rules list the bike at 32 and 64 km, while the 2026 racebook marked the loop as 30 and 60 km, so check the 2027 racebook for the final figure.
- Formats
- 51.0, 25.5
- Race-day conditions
- Late October is spring in the Santiago basin: normals for the city are about 8–23 °C with very little rain, so a 7:00 start is cool and the run warms up fast under a strong sun. The lagoon swim follows the standard rule: the organisers confirm the day before whether wetsuits are allowed, based on the water temperature.
What to train for
Both formats are non-drafting with a long bike relative to the swim, so build steady solo time-trial efforts of 60 to 90 minutes at race power, rehearsing the U-turns at each end of the loop.
The 16 km run is the real test on the 51.0: do brick sessions of 60 minutes on the bike followed by 45 to 75 minutes of running, holding an even pace across short laps.
Open-water swims of 1,600 m continuous with sighting every 6 to 8 strokes will prepare you for the lagoon triangle, and heat-tolerant hydration practice pays off once the sun is up.
