Course
The Bremen Marathon course
All three races start and finish on the Marktplatz beside Bremen's historic Rathaus, with the marathon off at 9:30. The marathon loops through the old town and out along the Werdersee and the Weserwehr, past the Rhododendron-Park, the Botanischer Garten, the university and the Universum, then back through the Bürgerpark and the Überseestadt.

The closing kilometres follow the Weser along the Schlachte and the Osterdeich and include a run through the Weserstadion before the finish in front of big crowds on the Marktplatz. The organizers publish no elevation profile, and the route is built on riverside paths, parks and city streets, so expect short bridge and dyke ramps rather than real climbs. The half and the 10 km share the Rathaus start and the same Weser, Weserstadion and Osterdeich finale.

- Marathon, Half marathon, 10K
- Field
- About 15,000 participants across all races in 2026, a record
- Weather on race day
- Early October in Bremen usually brings 6–14 °C, with the 9:30 start near the cool end of that range and cloud or showers on about half the days of the month. A breeze off the Weser can make the riverside sections feel cooler, so start in a layer you can drop and drink to thirst rather than to a hot-day plan.
What to train for
A flat, flowing city course rewards even pacing, so make marathon-pace work the core: build to 3 × 5 km and then 2 × 8 km at goal pace inside long runs over the final eight weeks.
Practise holding rhythm through turns and short ramps, since the route winds through parks and over the river rather than along long straights.
Long runs of 30 to 34 km with the last 10 km at steady pace prepare you for the Osterdeich and Weserstadion finale, and a few runs in wind and drizzle make race morning feel familiar.
