Course
The Palma Marathon course
All three races start on the Autovía de Levante at the Parc de la Mar, opposite the Cathedral, with the 10 km off at 8:00 and the marathon and half at 8:05. The half heads west along the Paseo Marítimo to a turn at the Maritime Station, runs out along the Escollera breakwater, then crosses back past the Cathedral toward the Molinar seafront before climbing Avinguda Gabriel Alomar into the old town.

From there it winds through Plaça Sant Francesc, Plaça Cort, the Born and the Rambla, loops via Passeig Mallorca and Jaume III, and returns past Plaça Reina to the finish beside the Cathedral. The marathon runs the same loop twice, with a short extra out-and-back on the second lap, and the cut-off sits at km 32 on the Cuesta del Gas, a short rise worth saving something for. Most of the distance is flat seafront, broken up by tight turns and short ramps in the historic centre.

- Weather on race day
- October in Palma is mild: normals run from about 13 °C at dawn to 24 °C in the afternoon, with humidity near 77%, so expect roughly 15–20 °C at the 8:05 start and warmer, sunnier running for marathoners finishing late in the morning. Rain falls on about six days in the month, often as short showers. Drink early at every aid station and pace the second lap for rising heat, not for the cool start.
What to train for
Because the marathon is two laps, train to run the second lap as evenly as the first: long runs of 30 to 35 km with the final 10 to 12 km at goal pace teach exactly that.
The old-town section has many sharp corners and short ramps, so add fartlek on twisty streets and practise getting back to rhythm after each turn.
Schedule some long runs on warm, humid mornings, rehearse fuelling every 30 to 40 minutes, and keep enough in reserve for the Cuesta del Gas around km 32.

Taper
Tapering for the Palma Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on October 17, 2027, your taper starts around September 29, 2027.

Palma Marathon training questions
How long should I train for the Palma Marathon?
Most runners give a marathon sixteen to twenty weeks of focused training on top of an existing base. The plan above counts back from your actual race date, so if you have less time than that it builds the best plan the remaining weeks allow rather than pretending you have longer.
Is the Palma Marathon course hilly?
Flat. All three races start on the Autovía de Levante at the Parc de la Mar, opposite the Cathedral, with the 10 km off at 8:00 and the marathon and half at 8:05.
