    Course

    The Málaga Marathon course

The marathon and half start together on Paseo del Parque, the palm-lined avenue between the port and the old town, which also hosts the finish. The organisers redesigned both routes in 2025 to be faster, flatter and with fewer bends, keeping the race on the city's seafront and central streets at close to sea level.

Expect long, straight coastal stretches with the Mediterranean beside you, where any breeze is the main variable, rather than climbs. Check the official map close to race day, since the route is published subject to federation approval.

    Weather on race day
Early November in Málaga is usually mild, roughly 12–15 °C at the morning start and up to about 20 °C by late morning, with humidity near 70% and only a handful of rainy days in the month. Strong sun on the open seafront can make the second half feel warm, so plan to drink early and often.

    What to train for

A flat, straight course with few turns is built for even pacing, so make marathon-pace blocks the core of the plan: 2 × 8 km rising to 2 × 12 km at goal pace inside long runs.

Because November warmth can still bite, rehearse your drinking plan on long runs in the warmest part of the day and practise taking a gel every 30–40 minutes.

Add one weekly session into a headwind or on an exposed path to learn to hold effort, not pace, when the sea breeze picks up.

    Taper

    Tapering for the Málaga Marathon

Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week.
