Course
The Lausanne Marathon course
All races start on the Place de Milan and finish in the lakeside village on the Place Bellerive, with the half at 8:40, the marathon at 10:05 and the 10 km at 14:00. The marathon is an out-and-back along Lake Geneva through Lutry (km 5), Cully, Treytorrens and Rivaz into the Lavaux vineyards, a UNESCO site, turning in the Corseaux and Vevey area (km 18 to 21) before returning the same way past Paudex and the Olympic Museum (km 40).

Since 2024 the route reaches further into the Lavaux panorama at Cully. The marathon climbs only 80 m and drops 146 m in total, so expect a gentle lakeside road with short rises rather than hills. The half and the 10 km share the Place de Milan start and the Bellerive finish.

- Field
- About 14,400 adult entrants across all races in 2025, a record; entries are capped
- Weather on race day
- Late October in Lausanne usually brings 9–15 °C by the lake, with humidity near 78% and rain on about ten days in the month. The 10:05 marathon start means mild midday running, but the open lakeside road can be breezy and the sky can swing from autumn sun to grey drizzle. Bring a throwaway layer and adjust your effort for a headwind on either leg of the out-and-back.
What to train for
An out-and-back course with gentle gradients rewards even splits, so practise negative-split long runs of 28 to 34 km, holding back on the way out to Lavaux and pressing on the return.
Include tempo runs on rolling roads, since the lakeside route has short rises rather than true hills.
Rehearse the late start: a full breakfast about three hours before and a snack around 9:00 so you are fuelled for a 10:05 gun. Plan for the cut-off too: marathoners need to pass km 18 at Corseaux by 12:30, about 2 h 25 after the start.

Taper
Tapering for the Lausanne Marathon
Start the taper two to three weeks before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on October 24, 2027, your taper starts around October 6, 2027.
