Course
The Hallwilerseelauf course
The half marathon starts in the centre of Beinwil am See, runs one full lap of the Hallwilersee and finishes at the Strandbad Beinwil. The first 3 km hold the only real descent, dropping about 70 m from roughly 520 m to lake level, and after that the official profile stays between about 450 and 465 m, with a small bump near km 5 and a short rise around km 16.

The route passes Mosen, Aesch and Meisterschwanden (the Delphin team changeover near km 10), then Seengen and Schloss Hallwyl around km 15, and returns via Boniswil and Birrwil on tree-lined lakeside paths and past vineyards. The 10 km starts at Schloss Hallwyl, loops toward Brestenberg and back past the castle, then follows the shore to the same Strandbad finish, and a 5 km Kurzlauf completes the program. Half-marathon starts go off in blocks from 12:15, with cut-offs at the Delphin (15:40) and Schloss Hallwyl (16:10).

- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Field
- About 10,000 runners and walkers across all events (2025)
- Weather on race day
- Early October around Lake Hallwil usually means 7–15 °C, with humidity near 85%, rain on about ten days in the month and often grey skies. That is close to ideal for a fast half marathon, though a damp start can feel chilly, so warm up well and wear a throwaway layer to the line. In cool air you need less fluid than in summer, but still take a few sips at the aid stations and watch for slick paths if it has rained.
What to train for
Respect the downhill opening: the first 3 km fall about 70 m, so practise running relaxed at goal pace on gentle descents and bank nothing, because the next 18 km are almost flat.
Most of the race is steady lakeside running, which suits tempo blocks such as 3 × 15 minutes at half-marathon pace and long runs of 18 to 22 km on flat paths.
Finish a few runs with strides up short rises to handle the bump near km 16 and the slight rise into the finish. With a midday start, rehearse your breakfast and pre-race snack timing on long-run days.

Taper
Tapering for the Hallwilerseelauf
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on October 9, 2027, your taper starts around September 27, 2027.
