Course
The Lake George Triathlon course
The race is based at Million Dollar Beach and the Lake George Battleground State Campground at the south end of Lake George, at the foot of the Adirondacks, over two days: in 2026 the Long Course and the short Open race went on Saturday and the Sprint and Olympic on Sunday. Every swim is a beach start from Million Dollar Beach with counterclockwise loops (one for the Sprint, two for the Olympic, two larger loops for the Long Course) and an exit at Dog Beach into T1.

The Sprint and Olympic bikes are out-and-backs north along the eastern shore on Route 9L and East Shore Drive, with the Olympic continuing onto Ridge Road, while the Long Course rides one 56-mile out-and-back through Lake George village, Diamond Point Road and the Schroon River roads to State Route 8. Roads stay open to traffic, so riders keep right on the shoulder. The runs are flat out-and-backs on the paved Warren County Bikeway and Beach Road, with turnarounds at 1.1 miles for the Sprint, 2.65 miles for the Olympic and 3.3 miles (run twice) for the Long Course.

- Race-day conditions
- Early September at Lake George usually brings cool mornings around 50–60 °F and afternoon highs in the 70s °F, so the Long Course often starts chilly and finishes warm. Alpha Win follows USA Triathlon wetsuit rules: wetsuits are legal at 78 °F or below, allowed between 78 and 84 °F only without award eligibility, and banned at 84 °F and above; by September the lake is usually on the cooler side of that line. Bring arm warmers for an early descent and plan your hydration for a sunny afternoon run.
What to train for
The bike routes leave the lake into rolling Adirondack country, so build strength on climbs: once a week, ride 4 to 6 x 5 minutes at threshold on a steady hill, and make your long ride hilly.
The Long Course is a single long out-and-back on open roads, so practise riding steadily in a straight line on the shoulder and fuelling every 20 to 30 minutes.
On the run, the bikeway is flat, which rewards even pacing: rehearse brick runs that settle into goal pace within the first mile. Open-water practice matters too, including sighting on buoys and swimming in a wetsuit if the water is below 78 °F.

Taper
Tapering for the Lake George Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on September 4, 2027, your taper starts around August 26, 2027.
