Course
The Saugerties Triathlon course
This is Alpha Win's hometown race, with transition, start and finish at the Waterside Spa at Diamond Mills on Ferry Street, on the Saugerties waterfront in the Hudson Valley with the Catskills on the horizon. Everything happens on one Sunday: in 2026 the Long Course started at 7:20 a.m., the Sprint at 8:00 a.m., the Olympic at 9:45 a.m. and the short Open race at 12:30 p.m.

Swims are in-water starts with counterclockwise loops (one for the Sprint, two for the Olympic and Long Course). The bike climbs out of the village on Hill Street and Partition Street, then heads out Route 9W and quiet country roads (Lauren Tice Road, Old Kings Highway, Dave Elliot Road) to a turnaround on High Falls Road; the Long Course rides two out-and-backs with an extra spur to Cahill School, and the organiser describes the ride as rolling. The run is billed as smooth and flat, looping through the historic village on Partition, Main and Market Streets to Cantine Field, where the Sprint turns, with the Olympic and Long Course continuing on park trails and Washington Avenue.

- Race-day conditions
- Mid-September in the Hudson Valley usually brings mornings around 50–60 °F and afternoon highs in the low to mid-70s °F, with humidity easing compared with summer. Alpha Win follows USA Triathlon wetsuit rules: legal at 78 °F or below, optional without award eligibility between 78 and 84 °F, and banned at 84 °F and above. Olympic and Long Course athletes will run in the warmest part of the day, so plan to drink at every aid station.
What to train for
The bike starts with a climb straight out of transition and then rolls, so practise standing starts on a short hill and pacing rollers by power or effort rather than speed: once a week, ride 3 to 5 x 8 minutes at threshold on rolling roads.
Because the run is flat and twisty through the village, brick runs at goal pace off a hard bike will pay off most.
Olympic athletes start late in the morning, so rehearse your nutrition for a 9:45 a.m. start and a warmer run. Get in several open-water swims with sighting practice, and swim some sessions in your wetsuit in case the water is 78 °F or below.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Saugerties Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on September 12, 2027, your taper starts around September 3, 2027.
