The course is flat and fast, certified by the Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) and part of its international calendar, with chip timing. Aid stations with drinks sit at km 5, 10 and 15, with more at the finish. The field is capped at 6,000 runners, so register early.

    Weather on race day
Late January in the Madrid area averages a high of about 10 °C and a low of about 1 °C, and the 10:30 start lets the morning warm up a little. January has around 5 wet days, so most race days are dry. Winds tend to come from the north at this time of year, so a light layer and gloves for the warm-up are useful, and you can shed them once you are moving.

    What to train for

A flat, certified loop is made for a personal best, so build your plan around half marathon pace work such as 3 x 5 km at goal pace with short recoveries.

Practise running even splits, because there are no hills to hide a fast start.

Use a few long runs of 18 to 22 km to make the distance feel familiar. With drinks only every 5 km, rehearse taking fluid from a cup on the move in training.

    Taper

Tapering for the Getafe Half Marathon

Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on January 31, 2027, your taper starts around January 19, 2027.
