Course
The Tybee Run Fest course
Every race starts and finishes by the pier at Tybrisa Street and Butler Avenue, with the 5K on Friday evening and the 10K (7:00 a.m.) and half marathon (8:30 a.m.) on Saturday. The half heads north up Butler Avenue toward the lighthouse end of the island at Gulick Street and Meddin Drive, then runs out and back along US 80 and Bay Street toward Battery Drive.

The second half winds back through the residential streets, with a loop out Lewis Avenue and a swing around the south end on Chatham Avenue before the finish near Tybrisa. It is a sea-level island course on paved roads with no hills, and the western stretches look out over the salt marsh. Ambitious runners can enter all five events, from the Friday 5K through the 2.8 mile beach run and the 1 mile, for 26.2 miles across the weekend.

- Flat
- Distances
- Half marathon, 10K, 5K
- Weather on race day
- Early February on the Georgia coast usually brings race mornings in the 40s to mid-50s °F, warming toward the 60s by midday, with moderate humidity. Wind off the ocean or across the marsh is the main variable on an exposed island, and the race goes ahead rain or shine.
What to train for
A flat course invites even pacing, so build sessions of 2 to 3 miles at half marathon pace and a long run of 11 to 12 miles with the last 3 at goal pace.
The US 80 out-and-back is the most exposed stretch, so practice holding effort into a headwind and keep something for the return.
Planning the full challenge? Rehearse running twice in 15 hours: a Friday evening tempo followed by a Saturday morning long run.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Tybee Run Fest
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on February 6, 2027, your taper starts around January 25, 2027.

Tybee Run Fest training questions
How long should I train for the Tybee Run Fest?
Most runners give a half marathon twelve to sixteen weeks of focused training on top of an existing base. The plan above counts back from your actual race date, so if you have less time than that it builds the best plan the remaining weeks allow rather than pretending you have longer.

Flat. Every race starts and finishes by the pier at Tybrisa Street and Butler Avenue, with the 5K on Friday evening and the 10K (7:00 a.m.) and half marathon (8:30 a.m.) on Saturday.
