Race central is at 90 Tabernacle Road in Medford Lakes, a lake community on the edge of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, with parking a short walk away on Stokes Road. The 1/4-mile swim is in a clean lake off a private beach, a short and friendly open-water start.

The 17.2-mile bike is two loops on local roads (Tabernacle Road, Bearhead and McKendimen Road, Oak Shade Road, Tuckerton Road and Stokes Road) before the return to transition. The 5K run is a fast, flat out-and-back on McKendimen Road with the turnaround at 1.55 miles. Duathletes open with a 2-mile flat out-and-back run, ride the same bike course and finish with the 5K.

- Race-day conditions
- Late August in South Jersey is usually warm and humid, with temperatures around 66–75 °F at the 7:30 a.m. start and highs in the mid 80s. Late-summer lake water is usually warm, so check the race-morning reading: wetsuits are allowed and award-eligible up to 78.0 °F, optional without awards from 78.1 to 83.9 °F and banned at 84.0 °F and above, while buoyancy shorts are permitted at any temperature. Hydrate well the day before and drink on the bike, since the run comes as the morning heats up.
What to train for
At 17.2 miles the bike is the longest part of this sprint, so build steady 60 to 75 minute rides at a strong, sustainable effort on flat roads, staying aero and holding your cadence.
The short swim rewards a confident start: practice open-water swims with a quick first 100 yards, then settle and sight every 6 to 8 strokes.
On a flat 5K the difference comes from turnover off the bike, so do weekly bricks of 10 to 20 minutes at goal 5K pace right after riding. Train in the morning warmth of late summer so the heat feels familiar.

Taper
Tapering for the Medford Lakes Colony Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on August 22, 2027, your taper starts around August 13, 2027.
