    Course

    The Lincoln Marathon course

The 50th edition in 2027, run by the Lincoln Track Club, starts at 14th and Vine on the University of Nebraska campus, with corral waves from 7:00 AM. The route takes in downtown Lincoln and the State Capitol before heading through the city's tree-lined neighborhoods, with the half and full sharing the road until the half splits off at mile 13.

Marathoners then head out on a second leg with a turnaround around mile 19 to 20, near Holmes Lake, where the most noticeable rise sits. Total climb is modest, roughly 500 feet over gently rolling streets, with water every 1.5 miles or so. Both races finish on the UNL campus beside Memorial Stadium.

    Distances
    Half marathon, Marathon
    Weather on race day
The race lists average May temperatures of about 46–67 °F, so expect a cool start that warms through the morning. Nebraska wind is the real variable: an open headwind on the second half can cost more time than heat, so run in a group when you can and hold effort rather than pace into the wind.

    What to train for

Gentle rollers all the way mean steady aerobic strength matters more than climbing power: build long runs on undulating roads and keep the effort even over each rise.

Add a weekly tempo of 4 to 6 miles at half or marathon pace on a windy, open route to learn effort-based pacing.

Practice the late-race push with long runs that finish the last 3 to 4 miles at goal pace, because the miles back from the turnaround decide your day.
