Course
The Valencia 70.3 course
The swim is a single 1.9 km loop in the Mediterranean off Playa de la Malvarrosa, Valencia's largest city beach, with T1 right on the beachfront. The 90 km bike starts with a short out-and-back by the sea, then heads inland to the rolling foothills of the Sierra Calderona before returning to the city and a split transition at Paseo de la Alameda, beside the City of Arts and Sciences.

The half marathon is flat: from the Alameda it passes through the City of Arts and Sciences and joins the Turia gardens, the park in the old riverbed, for two out-and-back laps that pass the finish twice. Organisers note the swim, T1 and bike routes are still under review with local authorities, so check the final maps in the athlete guide.

- Race-day conditions
- IRONMAN expects water of 16–17 °C, so this is a wetsuit swim (wetsuits are allowed up to and including 24.5 °C); a neoprene cap helps if you feel the cold. Air temperatures listed for race day usually run from about 11 °C at dawn to 24 °C by afternoon, which means a chilly swim exit and a warm run, so plan a layer for T1 and your hydration for the second half.
What to train for
Cold early-season water is the first test: get at least four or five open-water or wetsuit swims in before April and practise a calm, smooth first 200 m.
The bike is fast along the coast but climbs into the Sierra Calderona, so train 20–30 minute efforts at race power on rolling terrain and practise staying aero on the flatter return into the city.
The run is flat and turns twice per lap, so weekly bricks of 60–90 minutes on the bike plus 20–30 minutes at half-ironman run pace will teach you to settle into rhythm quickly off the bike.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Valencia 70.3
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week. With the race on April 18, 2027, your taper starts around April 6, 2027.
