What to train for
Plan to swim without a wetsuit: the organizers expect water in the lower 80s °F, above the USAT wetsuit legal limit of 78 °F, so do your open water practice in a swimsuit or swimskin.
Ride rolling routes with a few real climbs so the hillier parts of the bike feel manageable, and practice holding a steady effort over the top of each rise.
For the challenging out-and-back run, add weekly bricks that finish with 15 to 30 minutes on a hilly loop. Heat matters here, so do some of your bricks in warm conditions and practice drinking on the bike.

Taper
Tapering for the Dickson Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course rolls, so keep one short session on undulating ground in the first taper week.
