The CDA Marathon course
The marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K all start at the corner of East Front Street and South 6th Street in downtown Coeur d'Alene and finish at McEuen Park on the lakefront. The route runs through the heart of the resort town, mixing downtown streets with scenic pathways and views of Lake Coeur d'Alene.

The marathon is a USATF certified Boston qualifier, and an early start at 5:30 a.m. gives marathoners extra time before the 1:00 p.m. cutoff. Aid stations come roughly every 2 to 3 miles with water, sports drink, GU gels and gummy chews, plus toilets near every stop.
- Distances
- 5K, 10K, Half marathon, Marathon
- Weather on race day
- Late May in Coeur d'Alene usually brings crisp mornings in the mid 40s °F and afternoon highs near 70 °F, with dry, comfortable air. The chance of a wet day is about 30%, and winds are typically light at around 5 mph. Early starters will appreciate a light layer at the line, and everyone benefits from finishing before the warmest part of the day.
What to train for
With a certified Boston qualifier course, this is a great spring target for a goal time, so build steady long runs up to 18 to 20 miles and weekly tempo work at marathon pace.
Practice fueling with GU gels and sports drink on long runs, since that is what the aid stations carry every 2 to 3 miles.
The early starts (5:30 a.m. for the early marathon, 7:00 a.m. for the half) reward runners who rehearse early breakfasts and morning long runs. Half marathoners can sharpen with tempo runs of 5 to 7 miles to enjoy the lake views at a strong rhythm.
