The Xtrem L starts with a 2 km point-to-point swim from the Île Sainte-Marguerite to Bijou Plage, followed by a 91 km bike with 1,450 m of climbing and a 20 km run. Xtrem L waves start at 7:45 (women, relays and duos) and 8:00 (men), and M waves at 8:50 and 9:05. Relays and duos are offered, and the organizers note that the courses can change for weather or roadworks.

- Race-day conditions
- Ten years of late April weather data for Cannes show average highs near 19 °C and lows near 11 °C, with about 14 °C at 8 am. Rain falls on about one day in four in this window, and the sea is still cool in spring, so bring your wetsuit and follow the organizers' race-week briefing on water temperature. Pack arm warmers for early descents and expect a pleasant, mild run along the coast.
What to train for
Both bike courses climb (about 10 m per km on the M and 16 m per km on the Xtrem L), so build climbing strength with weekly hill repeats of 5 to 10 minutes and practise descending with confidence.
For the Xtrem L, the island-to-beach swim has no lap markers, so add open-water sessions with sighting every 6 to 8 strokes.
Brick sessions are essential: run 20 to 40 minutes off the bike every week in the last two months. Rehearse climbing the 10 steps out of the water so your first minute in transition feels calm.

Taper
Tapering for the Cannes International Triathlon
Start the taper seven to ten days before race day. Trim the volume in all three sports, keep short race-pace efforts in each, and do one last short brick so running off the bike still feels familiar. The course is hilly, so keep one short hill session in the first taper week to keep the climbs familiar. With the race on April 25, 2027, your taper starts around April 16, 2027.
