Course
The Royal Parks Half course
A single lap on closed roads that starts on South Carriage Drive in Hyde Park and finishes in Kensington Gardens, in front of the Albert Memorial and the Royal Albert Hall. The route links four Royal Parks (Hyde Park, The Green Park, St James's Park and Kensington Gardens) with central London landmarks: Buckingham Palace, Horse Guards Parade, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, and The Mall, which you run twice.

The later miles return to the parks, including Serpentine Road, which the organisers call the loudest cheer mile of the race, and pass Kensington Palace. The course is generally flat with a few gentle undulations, and water stations sit at about 5.6, 10.5, 15.3 and 17.7 km.

- Distances
- Half marathon
- Weather on race day
- Early-to-mid October in central London is usually cool and good for running, around 9–15 °C at the 8:45 start, with a chance of drizzle. Fallen leaves in the parks can be slippery when wet, so take the turns with care and wear a throwaway layer to the start.
What to train for
A mostly flat course with gentle undulations is built for steady pacing: run weekly threshold sessions such as 3 × 3 km or 20–25 minutes continuous at slightly faster than half marathon pace.
Long runs of 18–22 km finishing with 5 km at goal pace prepare you for the second half in the parks, where the route twists more.
Practise running relaxed through turns, since the course changes direction often around the landmarks. A park-based long run with some gentle rises is the closest match to race day.

Your build to race day
Taper
Tapering for the Royal Parks Half
Start the taper ten to fourteen days before race day. Cut your weekly volume by about a third, then by half in race week, and keep a few short efforts at race pace so your legs stay sharp. The course is flat, so pacing decides the day: rehearse your goal pace in short segments during race week. With the race on October 10, 2027, your taper starts around September 28, 2027.
